Essential Items to Keep in The Car in Case of Emergency

Emergencies are stressful, especially if you’re unprepared. Keep these essential items in your vehicle at all times and you’ll always be ready for an emergency.

First aid kit

No car should be without a complete first aid kit. If you get into an accident and need some ointment or have to compress a wound until the paramedics arrive, you’re going to want some basic first aid items readily available. Many stores like CVS and Walmart sell pre-assembled first aid kits, and you can always supplement with additional items you think you’ll need such as granola bars for diabetic passengers or water bottles just in case you break down in the Alabama heat.

Breakdown tools

When your tire blows, engine overheats, or battery dies, do you call AAA to come bail you out or do you fix it yourself and get back on the road? It’s one thing if your vehicle clearly needs a mechanic. But if it’s a smaller issue and you have what you need on-hand, you should be able to fix it yourself.

Anticipate an emergency and be proactive by putting together a car breakdown kit, complete with all the essentials you might need to fix a broken-down vehicle. If you’re not sure how to fix your car, watch some YouTube videos on how to change a tire, jump start a dead battery, etc. You can never be too prepared!

Car Registration & Insurance

Getting pulled over isn’t exactly an emergency, but it can take you by surprise, so it’s best to be prepared for it. Keep your license on you and your car registration papers in your glove box, since this will be the first thing an officer will ask you for. If you get into an accident, you’ll want to have your insurance information readily available as well.

Unforeseen circumstances happen at the most inopportune moments, whether you’re prepared for them or not. But if you equip yourself with the tools you need to handle emergencies, common occurrences like a flat tire or a fender-bender are less likely to derail your day.
